
The Department was established during 1981. Majority of the students opt for Telugu as second language at I and II Degree level.

The Department of Telugu initiated to start an Interdisciplinary course. The UGC sanctioned Innovative programme under the scheme, ‘UGC Innovative Programme under Teaching and Research in Interdisciplinary and emerging areas.’ It is a two year P.G. Course M.A. Corporate Telugu started during the year 1999 which includes various subjects like Communicative Skills, Soft Skills, journalism, Globalization, Computing languages, Fundamentals of Computer Science, Machine Translation, Natural language processing and Human Resource Management. It is a very useful job oriented course first of its kind in the A.P. State.

The department gives much importance to learner centered methods than teacher centered methods. Modern Teaching methods like Study Projects, Class Room Seminars, Question Answer Sessions, Group discussion on current trends, Power Point Presentations are always encouraged and practiced by the Department. To bring out the Literary and other skills, the Department conducts various competitions like debates, elocution, essay writing, short stories, poetry writing and Greeting card making. To inculcate research attitude the department conducts Seminars at regional and also at National level and also encourage the students and other faculty to attend the seminars and activities conducted by other institutions. The Department encourages the students to participate in all literary and cultural programmes in and outside the college. Arranging literary Speeches and Guest lectures is a regular practice of the Department.
